Being a conductor is about creating music with others. I have to make the singers love the music as much as I do, so that together we can make music which touches the listener’s emotions, imaginations and minds. It’s about trying to make it possible for magic to happen. In order to succeed with this kind of teamwork, I believe it’s important to involve the singers, to trust them and their competance. The role of the conductor demands a sublime leadership, where being successful is all about mastering the paradox of on the one hand being convincing and present, and on the other hand never ever standing in the way of the music. — Elisabeth Holte

Elisabeth Holte is the musical director of Uranienborg Vokalensemble and cantor at Uranienborg Church. She founded Uranienborg Vokalensemble in 2002. Through concerts, tours, competitions and recordings, the choir has built a reputation for presenting choral music to the highest standards.

Holte is trained in sacred music, conducting and musical education pedagogy and holds a Master’s degree from The Norwegian Academy of Music. She has also studied with Eric Ericsson in Stockholm, and is in demand for guest conducting and choral training workshops throughout Norway and abroad. She enjoys working both with a cappella repertoire as well as larger works for choir and orchestra, and has led several new commissions by composers such as Ørjan Matre, Ola Gjeilo og Marianne Reidarsdatter Eriksen.
