More than 700 years lay between text and music in this version of the Norse epic poem “Liknarbraut”. An anonymous skald wrote down his innermost thoughts about the Cross in a strong and sonorous “dråpa”, entirely in the tradition of the pre-Christian Viking skalds. The poem is full of fascinating and mythical images that speak with an astonishing amount of authority to modern man as well. Wolfgang Plagge’s choral setting bridges the centuries and lends depth to the medieval poetic thoughts. The musical expression ranges from the faintest Pianissimo to cascades of explosive energy, and forms an acoustic impression of Time itself – a reflection.
