He came all the way from Kønugard to Stiklestad. To retain power over Norway and ensure that the country would be connected to Christian Europe. Kønugard is the Norse name for Kyiv. He was Olav Haraldsson, also known as Olav the Holy and buried at Nidaros. Over his grave, Nidarosdomen, Norway’s largest cathedral was built more than 800 years ago in the city of Trondheim. It was a dream come true for Iver Kleive and Knut Reiersrud to record their music in this mighty building. All of their previous albums have been recorded in Danish churches. Few churches in Norway have comparable formats to the great Danish cathedrals, both in terms of organ and acoustics. But Nidarosdomen Cathedral is a step above them all. For four winter nights they camped in the west nave under the beautiful rose window. From eleven at night until six in the morning they worked. Taking in and absorbing the atmosphere between walls were pilgrims have made their way through the centuries. There, touched by what is “vidunderligst av alt på jord” (the most wonderful of all on the earth), they created the music for this album.

Kleive and Reiersrud started their collaboration on the legendary album “Blå Koral” in 1991. This was followed by a number of releases where these two have explored the interaction between the church organ and electric guitar. For the most part they have had a psalm repertoire, often folk-music and blues treasures, but have also created new material. All in all, there have been four recordings: “Blå Koral” (1991), “Himmelskip” (1996), “Nåde over nåde” (2006) and “Natt i desember” (Christmas-album) (2018). The Danish singer Povl Dissing also appeared on two albums in this series: “Den signede dag” (2000) and “Som den gyldne sol” (2013).

The key shift from stereo to immersive sound lies in transforming the listener from an observer into a participant. This approach conveys a physical presence, where music gains a tactile quality through performers and instruments. The core of the music arrives naturally and engages our emotional senses, making the performance feel like a tangible soundscape you might reach out and touch.

Erik Hillestad has produced their previous albums and this one as well. Alf Christian Hvidsteen served as the sound engineer. Morten Lindberg mentored and mastered the immersive edition.
